On March 22, 2016 the Levan Mikeladze Foundation held the first meeting of Agriculture and Regional Development Working Group on the topic - “Smallholder Farmers and Agricultural Cooperation/Strengthening of target oriented investments”. The meeting was organized in the framework of the project - “National Convention on the EU in Georgia”. The project is carried out in partnership with the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA) and with the financial support of the Slovak Aid and Europe Foundation. 
The meeting took place in the National Library of Georgia. It was chaired by Mr. Lasha Inauri, Deputy Head of Euro Integration Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia and by Mr. Ilia Kvitaishvili, founder of Rural and Agricultural Policy and Development Institute.
The working group was composed with representatives of government bodies, NGOs, diplomatic missions of various states and the Delegation of the European Union. In total, there were 23 organizations represented in the session.

On March 11th, in the framework of the project "Capacity Development of Civil Society in the Regions Essentially Populated with Ethnic Minorities  in Georgia", Levan Mikeladze Foundation organized the first discussion in Marneuli for representatives of Media, NGOs and local municipalities. The discussion took place at Marneuli municipality. The topics of discussion were Georgia-EU relations, Visaliberalisation, Association Agreement, opportunities of DCFTA and successful examples in this field. The goal of these meetings were to increase awareness of EU to the presented audience. 

During the discussion Ekaterine khositashvili (representative of MFA of Georgia), Marika Liparteliani (regional coordinator of the information centre on NATO and EU) and Maiko Gabuldani (representative of "Europe for Georgia") made presentations about the above mentioned topics. During the discussion audience asked many interesting questions and interactive discussion took place. In the end of the meetings informative brochures were disseminated about EU-Georgia relations, EU values, and Visa Free Travel in EU. The brochures were translated into Russian, Azerbaijan, Armenian and Georgian languages.

On March 2, 2016 the Levan Mikeladze Foundation held its first working group meeting on Strategic Communication. The meeting was organized in the framework of the project - “National Convention on the EU in Georgia”. The project is carried out in partnership with the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA) and with the financial support of the Slovak Aid and Europe Foundation.

 

The meeting took place in the State Chancellery. It was chaired by Ms. Veka Modebadze, the Acting Deputy Head of Strategic Communication Department of State Minister’s Office of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and by Ms. Lika Shavgulidze, founder and editor-in-chief of web portal Europe for Georgia. The meeting was broadcasted on Imedi TV.

 

The working group was composed with representatives of government bodies, NGOs, diplomatic missions of various states and the Delegation of the European Union. In total, there were 26 organizations represented in the session.

The first WG meeting on Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) took place on 1st of March, 2016 in the Training Center of MFA.  Internal expert, Mr. Kakha Gogolashvili presented the recommendations which was consisted of the following issues: National Treatment and Market Access for Goods; Technical Barriers to Trade, Standardization, Metrology; Sanitary measures; Current Payments and Movement of Capital. International expert, Mr. Mr. Martin Valentovic from SFPA shared Slovakian experience to the audience. 

 

Overall, the first working group was highly informative, beneficial and productive for every stakeholder. 

Mrs. Mariam Gabunia (The Head of Department for Foreign Trade and International Economic Relations, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Developmen) and Mr.Mikheil Skhiereli (Country Program Manager, Good Governance Fund at Policy and Management Consulting Group LLC) were the co-chairs of the meeting.

On December 29th, Levan Mikeladze Foundation organized the meeting for charity purpose with the youths of Pankisi Gorge. The population of Pankisi Gorge live in the hard socio-economic conditions, especially the youths are not fully engaged in public activities. In order to prevent this tendency, it is important to initiate more active communication with them from civil society's side. The organized activity by LMF precisely responded to that matter. In the framework of this event, the youths visited Old Tbilisi, the bridge of Peace, AnchisKhati, Juma Mosque and other sightseengs of Tbilisi. After the tour of Tbilisi, they visited Restaurant "Wendy" and watched New Year's movie at "Rustaveli Cinema". Before returning to Pankisi, they viewed night Tbilisi, decorated for New Year. The event was financially supported by Levan Mikeladze Foundation for Caucasus Studies.

The lecture took place at Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training Centre, MFA. The lecture was led by Mr.Mikheil Janelidze, the First Deputy of Foreign Minister. He talked about the long path which Georgia went through on the way to Free Trade with EU. As he noted, DCFTA presents economical, as well as diplomatic character. The audience asked many questions and the interesting discussion took place.

On November 30rd - December 4th, in the framework of the project "National Convention on the EU in Georgia" Eka Bramidze (The Development Program Director of LMF) and Eter Sajaia (Financial manager of LMF) visited Bratislava. The overall goal of the project is to stimulate the direct, transparent and open dialogue among the target groups, to provide them with the expert information and feedback from different networks, groups or local organizations, to engage into the discussion on the key issues of the European integration of Georgia and its eventual success crucial segments of the society and facilitate the establishment of the groups based on the common cross-political interest. The target groups are : the government, public opinion makers, media, NGOs, political parties, different networks, entrepreneur s and public at large in Georgia.

During the study visit in Slovakia, LMF representatives held numerous interesting meetings with the director of Slovak Foreign Policy Associatio (SFPA)- Alexander Duleba, Head of Eurocomission Press and Political Department - Andrey Kralik, Head of Eastern Partnership issues at the Embassy of Slovakia - Dusan Dacho. During the meetings, the importance of this project was highlighted and full support of Slovakia was shared towards Geogia's aspirations of EU membership.

On December 8th, 2015 in the framework of the project "Public Lectures on Foreign Policy Priorities and National Security Challenges of Georgia" the Levan Mikeladze Foundation launched the Public lecture: "Georgia-Russian Relations". The lecture took place at Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training Centre, MFA. The lecture was led by Mr.Zurab Abashidze, Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Russian Issues. He talked about the relations between Russia and Georgia, the importance of informal dialogue between the two countries, its results and expectations. The discussion also referred to ongoing regional geopolitical processes, in which Rusia is involved, and what importance they might have on Georgia. The audience asked many questions and the interesting discussion took place.

On November 19th, 2015 in the framework of the project "Public Lectures on Foreign Policy Priorities and National Security Challenges of Georgia" the Levan Mikeladze Foundation launched the Public lecture: "Georgia's Transatlantic Integration". The lecture was led by Mr.Levan Dolidze, the ex-Ambassador of Georgia to NATO and First Deputy Defense Minister of Georgia, currently the director of "Georgian Center for Security and Development". He talked about the long path which Georgia went through between Georgia-NATO relations, current threats and future perspectives. The audience asked many questions and the interesting discussion took place.
