On July 28, the final event of the National Congress of the European Union in Georgia project, organized by the Levan Mikeladze Foundation, took place at the Courtyard by Marriott Tbilisi Hotel.

 

The plenary session was opened by H.E. Pavel Vizdal, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovakia to Georgia, Mr. Tomáš Strážay, Director of the Research Center of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association, and Mr. Archil Gegeshidze, Executive Director of the Levan Mikeladze Foundation.

 

The session consisted of two panels. The first panel discussed the future of Georgia in the context of the European Union. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia, H.E. Petr Mikyska, and the Director of the Research Center of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association, Mr. Tomáš Strážay, spoke at the panel. Also, the Chairman of the Georgian Progressive Forum, Dmitri Tskitishvili, made a presentation of the concept document "Georgia's External Communications: Grand Strategy and Tailored Approaches", prepared within the framework of this project. He spoke about the main conclusions and recommendations.

 

The second panel was dedicated to the energy security of Georgia. Representative of the Department of Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy Policy, and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Ms. Mariam Darchia discussed the key issues of Georgia's energy security. Energy Expert of the Think Tank - World Experience for Georgia - Ms. Natalia Shatirishvili spoke about the concept paper developed jointly with her colleague, Mr. Giorgi Mukhigulishvili "Energy Security Assessment, Including the Legal and Institutional Framework." The document was prepared within the framework of the mentioned project and Slovak experts in the field of energy - Ms. Veronika Oravcova and Mr. Alexander Duleba took part in its preparation.

 

The session was moderated by H.E. Tamar Beruchashvili, Ambassador at Large on Black Sea Affairs, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georiga, and Ambassador to the United Kingdom and permanent representative of Georgia at the International Maritime Organization.

 

The event was attended by representatives of the state and non-governmental sectors, as well as experts in the relevant field, and members of the diplomatic missions of the EU member states.

 

The project was implemented in cooperation with the Research Center of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association and with financial support from SlovakAid and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
