Support for Student-Centered Higher Education

LMF has elaborated the project ‘Support for Student-Centered Higher Education’, in cooperation with Open Society Georgia Foundation. The project was successdully funded with $19.797 from Open Society Georgia Foundation’s side, while the contribution of LMF to the development of the project was $7.070. Within the framework of the project following activities were implemented:

  • The foreign, advanced experience in the field of educational system was researched and analyzed.
  • The qualitative research was conducted to the focus groups with the aim to identify the existing problems in educational process and the drawbacks in students’ services. The research included open and semi-open questions about the issues, which were exposed by the focus groups’ answers. 11 group meetings were held, where the discussion about the researched outcomes and focus groups took place. Each focus group contained about 8-10 participant. The group discussions were conducted in the universities of Tbilisi (3 focus groups), as well as in regional cities (Kutaisi, Batumi, Telavi).
  • The main outcomes and findings of the qualitative research were presented at Tbilisi State University, on January, 2015, which was attended by 40 interested persons, including the students.

Project Goal

  • To improve and increase students’ opportunities for participation in Georgian Universities, particularly in the sphere of administration and educational processes.
  • to investigate and analyze the existing foreign experience of student oriented educational system.
  • to identify the existent problems with the help of focus groups in the field of student service and educational processes in four of Georgian ( TSU,Kutaisi, Batumi and Telavi) Universities.
  • to conduct surveys to students of 4 universities via the questionnaires (Approximately 1200 students were questionned).
  • to crease a consolidated report, in which the instructions will be presented about the improvement of student-centered educational system in Georgia and the ways how to resolve the problems in the student service aspect.
